Celebrating 24 Years of SoluTech.
It’s May 2025.
Twenty four years ago I set up SoluTech; back when I was young, slim, and (allegedly) good-looking!
The internet and the dot com boom were just beginning to take off.
Photocopiers weren’t considered IT devices. They didn’t scan or print, they just copied, useless huh?!
Back then, I was still juggling a few hats. Writing the Ceefax and Teletext TV pages for various football clubs, contributing to local and sports newspapers, reporting and commentating on football across Yorkshire and Lincolnshire. Behind it all, I was trying to build SoluTech into something solid.
There were no podcasts or social media yet. That all came later.
Hull City hadn’t reached the top flight of English football. That changed. I had the immense honour of presenting my own radio show and commentating on the Tigers in the Premier League, my hometown team. Short of playing for them, it doesn’t get much better than that!
I still work home games at the club, hosting events, interviewing players and managers.
We took 13 coaches of City fans to Mark Hateley’s first game in charge at Mansfield back in 1997 (sadly we lost 2–0… it didn’t get much better that season!)
Over the years, I’ve interviewed chairmen, players past and present and still step in now. I have the odd BBC Radio Humberside commentary cameo.
I’m proud to have covered more than 1000 Hull City games commentating on over 800 — what a ride!
Meanwhile, SoluTech kept growing.
We weathered the financial crash of the late 2000’s, not just surviving but coming through stronger.
Then came COVID. A tricky period, as it was for everyone. We pushed on. Not tearing up trees, just moving forward steadily. Doing things the right way, with honour, consistency and service we can be proud of.
As we move into our 25th year, we reflect on the journey so far.
One that’s been built on a lot of luck, a huge amount of help from some wonderful people and a shared belief in doing business properly.
So, thank you to everyone who’s been part of this story.
To our brilliant customers, old, new and future.
To Team SoluTech, who make it all happen and to the many others who’ve played a part along the way.
It’s been and continues to be a fun journey.
Here’s to what’s next.
